If you’re interested in the Sacramento food scene you’ll start hearing about great pop ups and food trucks early. In the current climate many of our favorites are hibernating (and we cannot wait for their return!) but Nash & Proper has been able to adapt and continue serving while following CDC guidelines.
We couldn’t be happier for this!
Whenever we check out a spot that EVERYONE is talking about we try to manage expectations. Sometimes restaurants just don’t live up to the hype. We had this same attitude as we tried Nash & Proper for the first time and our expectations were not only met but completely exceeded. Those long lines and the $12 for a sandwich are 100% worth it for a quality Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich.
While we can’t congregate with friends and enjoy this chicken goodness at some of the food truck’s regular haunts like SacYard right now, they do have a very simple online ordering system. The best part of this social distancing is that you can order ahead of time on their website and designate a pick up time which eliminates those typical long lines!
Now, you’ve heard about how great Nash & Proper is and how to order, but you’ll want to know this next part. The menu has sandwiches, tenders, wings and a quarter bird (leg and thigh) available to order and all of them are delicious. The sandwich is definitely the most photogenic item on the menu and a perfect balance of flavors. It has a perfectly fried boneless thigh, coleslaw, their delicious fuego sauce and an amazing fluffy bun. This balance is even more important if you choose one of their hotter levels, because this food gets HOT!
You get to choose from Naked, Mild, Medium, Hot or Cluckin’ Hot. This choice could make or break your dinner, so know that my husband and I usually go for Medium and we’re fans of spicy. Once you get to Hot your lips will be on fire and Cluckin’ Hot is more for the brave or people who are experts in the world of spice. We’d recommend going down a level from what you usually get and work your way up on your next visit (and we know you’ll want to visit over and over).
Once you find your sweet spot spice level you’ll be in heaven every time you take that first crispy bite. If you’re after sides, they serve up crinkle fries, pickled slaw and potato salad as well as extra pickles. We usually load up on pickles and get an order of crinkle fries. Also, don’t forget their amazing ranch dressing or extra sides of fuego sauce. Both are delicious.
If you haven’t already visited Nash & Proper you’re now ready to experience Nashville Hot Chicken goodness! If you’ve already had the pleasure of dining with them I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
